Components:

1. Chestpiece: This is the part of the stethoscope placed against the patient. It often has two sides:
   • Diaphragm: A flat side used for high-frequency sounds. It’s commonly used for listening to breath, bowel, and normal heart sounds.
   • Bell: A smaller, cupped side used for low-frequency sounds. It’s typically used for listening to abnormal heart sounds and certain vascular sounds.
2. Tubing: In a double tube stethoscope, there are two separate tubes, one for each ear, running from the chestpiece to the ear tips. This design is meant to provide a clearer sound by reducing the interference between sounds from the diaphragm and the bell.
3. Stem: This connects the tubing to the chestpiece and often has a switch or mechanism to select between the diaphragm and bell.
4. Headset: Made up of tension springs, ear tubes, and eartips. The eartips should fit snugly and comfortably in the user’s ears, sealing out external noise.
5. Eartips: Soft tips that fit within the user’s ears. They should be comfortable and create a seal to prevent external noise interference.
